Sometimes, Windows Dial-Up Networking just won't remember your password. Other times, the "Save Password" box is just plain grayed out. It's really annoying... Here are some work-arounds.
A. When you start up the computer, it asks for a password to log into Windows ~ and you're clicking ESC or Cancel or the "X" to close the window. Try replacing the username with something else, entering NO password, and clicking OK. Remember, next time the computer starts up, if it asks for a password, it's already in there ~ nothing. So just click OK or press Enter.
B. Is your network complete? Check the Control Panel > Networking - see if you've got Client for Microsoft Networks installed. If you don't, add it. Add > Client > Microsoft > Client for Microsoft Networks
C. The password files are screwed up. Search for files ending in .PWL on the computer. Rename them with .PWL.OLD or something meaningful like that. Restart the computer and try Dial-Up Networking again.
C. An incorrect Registry value can sometimes : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Network\Real Mode Net Change AUTOLOGON from "00 00 00 00" to "01 00 00 00" Close the Registry Editor. Re-start the computer.
